About Us

Who We Are

Fiji Senior Citizens Association of South Australia Inc.

Fiji Seniors Association was established in 1997 and is an offspring of Fiji Social and Cultural Club of SA.

Fiji Seniors Association is run by an elected committee of nine members. An election is held every two years. The team runs the organisation to the best proved practices guided by the Associations up to date constitution and recently acquired Star Service Certification. Star Service is a dynamic document which is amended/changed on a regular basis or as and when required by Department of Human Services SA for the good governance.

What we do?

Fiji Seniors Association is a social/educational club where members meet once a month (second Sunday of the month) at the Fulham Community Centre, 19 Fitch Road, Fulham. The program starts with a short meeting where President’s and the Treasurer’s report are presented followed by discussions/innovative ideas, planning for future excursions, fund raising, guest speakers, members views and suggestions etc. After the meeting there is either a Guest Speaker, a session of Tai Chi, a game of bingo or celebrate religious festivals and birthdays. A Guest speaker is arranged as and when required basis and the speaker arranged normally specialises on topics relevant to seniors e.g., Health Care, My Aged care, Legal documents such as Power of Attorney, Advance Care Directive, Centre Link issues, Pension etc. Towards the end, members sit down for lunch which consists of Fiji’s traditional dishes prepared by the members themselves. This being the best part of the day which is well enjoyed by the members.

The Association organises about two to three excursions a year. These excursions could be just a day trip e.g., to Monarto Zoo, or two to three days trip to places of interest like Kangaroo Island, Clare Valley, Riverland, Mt Gambier, Riverland, Flinders Rangers, Port Lincoln or even interstate. We have been to Ayres Rock, Perth, Margaret River, Freemantle, Cruise on Queen Elizabeth 1 etc. These trips are well appreciated and enjoyed by the members as many of them would not have seen those places by themselves.

The above is achieved by members fully financing themselves.

However, we do acknowledge Multicultural Affairs (SA Government), Volunteer Grants, City of West Torrance and MCCSA for providing small grants to purchase necessary equipment for our Association and volunteers use.
